Charism
The way we live

The charism of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, also known as Dehonians, is rooted in the vision of their founder, Venerable Fr. Leo John Dehon, who established the congregation in 1878 in Saint-Quentin, France. This charism centers on devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, emphasizing a spirituality of reparative love and missionary zeal. Inspired by the boundless love of Christ’s Heart, as symbolized in John 19:37 (“They will look on the one they have pierced”), Dehonians dedicate themselves to proclaiming the Gospel of Love and serving those in greatest need, particularly in troubled and marginalized communities.
The Dehonian charism is expressed through a commitment to social justice, reconciliation, and the promotion of God’s kingdom of love and peace. Fr. Dehon, deeply moved by the harsh conditions of factory workers in his time, sought to bridge the gap between the Church and the working poor, emphasizing the dignity of every person. This mission continues today as Dehonians engage in global missionary work, Catholic education, and outreach to the poor and neglected, striving to be “prophets of love and servants of reconciliation” (Constitutions of the Priests of the Sacred Heart).
Their spirituality is grounded in contemplation of Christ’s pierced Heart, which reflects both suffering and divine love, as articulated in Galatians 2:20: “He loved me and gave himself up for me.” This inspires a life of oblation, where Dehonians offer themselves fully to God’s will, seeking to repair the sins of humanity through prayer, service, and social action. Their logo, featuring a silver cross with a radiant Heart, symbolizes this call to make Fr. Dehon’s charism fruitful in response to the Church’s and world’s needs.
In practice, the Dehonian charism manifests in ministries that address both spiritual and social challenges, over 40 countries, including challenging missions. Their work is an invitation to all to experience the transformative love of Christ’s Sacred Heart, fostering unity, compassion, and justice in a divided world.
Love
"All true love aims to make the person you love happy.".

"The ideal of my life is to conquer the world so that Jesus Christ can establish the Kingdom of the Sacred Heart."
Vocation
It is necessary to embrace one's own vocation and enter into the process of constant maturity through a daily yes! Vocational accompaniment consists of mutual knowledge. The Congregation knows the person with the vocation, even if superficially, and the person with the vocation knows the Congregation. Together, the person with the vocation and the Congregation listen to the voice of God, seeking to identify what His will is.
