Gatineau Diocese Honors Fr. Bill Marrevee at Sacred Heart Feast Celebration
On Friday, June 27, the actual date of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Archbishop Paul-Andre Durocher, of the Diocese of Gatineau, Quebec, invited the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ) to celebrate the Feast with him at the Parish of St. Aloysius Gonzaga in Gatineau, presently staffed by Fr. Greg Murray. The purpose was to gather people from across the diocese to celebrate the Feast day in relation with the year of Jubilee called by Pope Francis. This was to be as well a celebration of our Congregation's ministry in the diocese of Gatineau, especially that of Fr. Bill Marrevee, who ministered here for many years in many of the English parishes of the diocese. Although SCJs from Toronto and Montreal could not attend, the confreres from Ottawa made up for this. Bishop Durocher presided at the mass and Fr. John van den Hengel proclaimed the gospel and preached on the meaning of the Sacred Heart devotion for the Church today. Fr. Bill was roundly feted at a joyous reception after the mass. Many of his former parishioners spoke well of him, as did Bishop Durocher and local superior, Fr. Paul Tennyson.
